 Hi friend. If you've been keeping up with me on Instagram, you know that after almost 9 years in Miami, I relocated across states (more on that later). After settling into my new place, I realized that if I wanted to walk the talk on brain health and sleep optimization, I had to start with my bedroom! Our bedrooms can secretly sabotage our sleep (bad lighting, bad vibes, bad air, and bad habits). So I’m revamping mine into a true sleep oasis, and I’m bringing you along for every step. Think: spa vibes, neuroscience hacks, and a touch of feng shui to design my best sleep yet. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing with you: 
 --- 🛌 FIRST TO-DO: Get a new mattress!But first, let me ask you something kinda weird but very real: What are you sleeping on every night? Because for years, I didn’t even think about it. I had a “decent” mattress, it looked fine, and I was functioning okay... until I started learning how much that mattress was impacting my sleep, hormones, fertility, and even my brain's health. This is what I found in my research about conventional mattresses:Most conventional mattresses are made with synthetic foams, flame retardants, glues, and chemicals that release VOCs (volatile organic compounds). These are airborne toxins that you literally breathe in all night, every night. Now imagine 8 hours a night, every night, for YEARS. By law, all mattresses need to pass tons of tests, including passing the flame retardant standards. These harmful chemicals are not really ever disclosed by the major mattress brands. Chemicals that have been banned in Canada, Europe, and several states build up in your body over time, and what you absorb or inhale does not go away.

This is concerning not only because of the health problems these chemicals are associated with (brain and reproductive damage, decreased sperm quality, thyroid problems, and even cancer at high levels), but also because of how pervasive these chemicals have become. 
I quickly learned that regular mattresses can also contain other chemicals like: 
 It makes so much sense. Every night, we lay our faces on our mattresses and pillows, breathing in these chemicals. This is even MORE important if you have children!
