Doechii made me do it! - New edition of weekend recap!

It's almost the weekend, and Happy Good Friday and Easter Weekend for those who observe it! As usual for Fridays in our community, I want to leave you with a round-up of some of the new things I'm trying, reading, or doing.

Just sharing what I'm loving (or not!) in a less formal way. Five (5) minutes or less, but full of resources so it can serve you and be worth your read. Always nearing the weekend, so you will have time to read and act on the things that you feel called to.

I feel like we need to name this 'weekend newsletter'!

NEW THINGS I'M TRYING:

💪🏽 Weighted vest for my cardio

Why did I wait so long to start using a weighted vest? It’s like turning your body into its own workout machine, with just a lil’ extra oomph.

So here’s the tea: wearing a weighted vest during cardio (think walking, hiking, stair climbing, or even dancing around your living room if that’s your vibe) is like sneaking in a bonus workout while you’re already working out. Wild, right?

My calorie burn has almost doubled, and I haven't been really doing much differently. Something else that I love about using the vest is that it helps so much to improve bone density, which is especially helpful as we get older and want to stay strong and agile.

I didn't go crazy and started with a 12-pound one for like 2 months; now I got myself a new 16-pound one, and, WOW, I can truly feel the burn.

🌟 Plumping serum

I plan to be O-U-T-S-I-D-E this spring and summer. Winter really did a number on my skin, so I've been slowly but surely nourishing it back to life with lots of at-home facials and being very diligent with my skincare.

A standout in my skincare routine has been this plumping serum that has given me that dewy and glowy look that shouts, 'she's healthy and eats all her veggies' kind of look. IYKYK

RECIPE I'M TRYING

🍽 Salmon Roe

Not really a recipe, per se, but nothing screams 'Spring is hereee' than caviar and blini, or if you're feeling extra adventurous like me, with potato chips!

I usually get this salmon roe from Whole Foods, and for a little bit more razzle-dazzle, I whipped this probiotic sour cream and added lemon zest.

I think the trick when using potato chips with any type of roe is to go for less greasy ones, like this one made with avocado oil and apple cider vinegar, so it doesn't compete with the buttery taste of the roe. But this is just my opinion and taste.

Pair it with a good crisp wine, and enjoy!

WHAT I'M READING

The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron

After binge watching Doechii's old YT videos, going week by week through the book's chapters where she shares how much it resonated with her and the OBVIOUS IMPACT it had in her life (like, 2025 is really Doechii's year!) I knew I had to run and get into the book as well.

The Artist's Way is a book on the subject of creativity where the author guides readers in uncovering problem areas and pressure points that may be restricting their creative flow and offers techniques to free up any areas where they might be stuck, opening up opportunities for self-growth and self-discovery

Me being a creator, this really resonated, and I'm so glad I got this book. I got it on Audible first to listen to it while I did my cardio, but now I'm getting the physical book as well.

It is THAT GOOD!

That's all for my second edition of this shorter, more personal edition of my newsletter.

Hi friend! This one stopped me in my tracks. A recent study from the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center found that microplastics are being detected in human brain tissue, meaning these tiny plastic particles can cross the blood-brain barrier (the protective filter that keeps toxins out of your brain). Let that sink in for a second. We’re talking about microscopic plastic fragments (from our water bottles, food containers, clothes, and even air) ending up in the most protected...

Yesterday (September 21st) was World Alzheimer’s Day. A day that many use to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around dementia. A day to highlight the importance of taking care of our brains EARLY. But if you've been with me for a while, you know that, here, that happens all the time! Did you know this??? 1 in 3 older adults dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. In the United States, over 7 million people are living with Alzheimer’s Nearly 12 million family members provide unpaid...

Happy Friday! 🌟 The weekend is just around the corner, and what better way to kickstart the fun than by giving your brain a workout? As your go-to brain health cheerleader, I'm here to remind you that playing brain games isn’t just fun, it’s also one of the best ways to keep your mind sharp and thriving. Why Brain Games? 🤔 Mental Agility: Just like hitting the gym keeps your body fit, brain games keep your mind sharp. They enhance cognitive flexibility, making it easier for you to adapt to...
